SAAB, Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget: a Swedish Auto Maker - Saab Automobile AB, better known as SAAB or Saab, an acronym for Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget, a Swedish auto maker, owned by Dutch car maker Spyker Cars NV. It is the exclusive automobile Royal Warrant holder appointed by the King of Sweden. Originally automotive manufacturing division of Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (Swedish Aircraft Limited), later known as Saab AB, Saab Automobile was acquired by General Motors Company in 1990, which was sold to Spyker Cars in 2010 .

SAAB was originally a division of Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (Swedish Aircraft Limited), which was established in 1937 in Linköping. The company was founded in 1937 with the express purpose of building aircraft for the Swedish Air Force to protect its neutrality as Europe moves closer to war. As the war drew to an end and that the market for combat aircraft evaporated, the company began to seek new markets in which to spread. (@ car showroom)
