About Hyundai Motor Company - Hyundai Motor Company LSE: HYUD, is an automotive company which is a division of Hyundai Kia Automotive Group and is the largest car manufacturer in South Korea. The company was founded by Chung Ju-yung and headquartered in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul. This automotive companies are developing in South Korea and even able to penetrate the international market previously dominated by Japanese automotive manufacturers. History
Chung Ju-yung founded the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company in 1947, and founded Hyundai Motor Company in 1967. The first model of car produced by this company is the Cortina, in collaboration with Ford Motor Company and marketed in 1968. In 1975, the Pony is, the first Korean cars are manufactured and marketed. Designed by Giorgio Giugiaro and with powertrain technology from Mitsubishi.
In 1991, Hyundai succeeded in developing its own gasoline engine (4 cylinder Alpha) and the transmission so that they no longer depend on other companies.
In 1983, Hyundai began exporting the Pony to Canada but not to the United States because it did not meet emissions standards there. Pony sales in Canada were very good, and became one of the most top-selling car in the Canadian market. Pony offers the same quality at a cheap price.
In 1986, Hyundai sold its products in the United States, and the Hyundai Excel was nominated as Best Product in the order of the top 10 by Fortune Magazine. Hyundai also produces cars with its own technology began in 1988, starting from the Hyundai Sonata. 1996, Hyundai Motors India Limited was established in Irrungattukotai near Chennai, India. In 1998, Hyundai did a make over its image to establish itself to a world class company. Chung Ju-Yung handed over leadership of Hyundai to his son, Chung Mong-Koo in 1999.
